Britwell

The Britwell and Haymill Regeneration Project is the Council's response to the identified needs of an area which suffers from a high level of deprivation, illness, unemployment and lower than average educational attainment. The area also contains some of the poorest quality social housing in the Borough, the improvement of which is beyond the Government's basic Decent Homes Programme.

The outline planning application for the first stage of the Britwell and Haymill Regeneration Project has been submitted to the Local Planning Authority.

This application focuses on Kennedy Park and the description of Proposed Development is:

"Outline planning application, for the development of retail (Use Classes A1, A2, A3 and A5), residential (Use Class C3), community uses (Use Class D1) and associated car parking, bus facilities, new formalised footpath and associated improvements to Kennedy Park"

This will provide an improved retail centre and modern residential accommodation, in a location which is less than 300m south of the existing centre at Wentworth Avenue.

The proposed development will create a new neighbourhood shopping centre and replacement family houses. In addition, it will deliver a new community centre, new bus facilities, replacement facilities for the Scout and Guide groups, a formalised footpath and cycle route through Kennedy Park, and a wide range of park enhancements.

Development on Kennedy Park, will enable an area at the centre of Wentworth Avenue to be freed up for comprehensive redevelopment. This will involve the demolition of the Wentworth Flats, the retail centre, and bungalow units at Marunden Green. A mix of private and affordable residential units will be developed in this area, in line with local planning guidance. This development will be proposed through a second planning application, if permission is granted for the enabling development at Kennedy Park.
